International Pediatric Feeding Disorder Conference (Virtual)

In this conference, the International Pediatric Feeding Disorder Conference (IPFDC) will be providing evidence-based education for the evaluation and treatment of children with pediatric feeding disorder featuring renowned feeding experts. Attendees are also presented some of the industry’s latest research during the IPFDC lightning session and gain valuable tools to earlier identify children with PFD. Completely virtual in 2020, the 7th IPFDC will be available to all registrants on-demand for 30 days post-conference.

Tube Feeding Shouldn't Hurt: Management of Enteral Nutrition Complications

This program reviews the anatomy and physiology of feeding tube placement, as well as, the nutrition considerations in home tube feeding. Additionally, the role of the home care clinician in identifying and managing feeding tube complications is outlined. Potential complications that can occur with feeding tubes in the home are reviewed, with discussion of both treatment and prevention techniques as described in case-based studies.

UVA GI Training Program

Where: University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville, VA

 

The 5-day UVA adult Nutrition Support Traineeship Program is a unique opportunity to achieve a higher level of practice in adult nutrition support. Experiences during the traineeship week are structured to spend time observing and participating in completing nutrition support consults, nutrition team rounds, review of syllabus modules, case studies and plenty of time for questions. Participants will hear a number of educational lectures and interact with clinicians from a variety of disciplines, including physicians, nurses, and others.

This program, part of a two-part series, will review the definition of Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) and intestinal failure. An overview of the underlying etiologies in the development of these conditions for both adults and pediatrics will be discussed. The process of digestion and absorption is outlined, discussing each of the GI tract's specific segments and their unique role in the process, emphasizing the medical and nutrition impact when a segment(s) is removed. Finally, the program will review the medications and neutraceuticals used to treat SBS, and review the various types of surgeries used to restore GI tract continuity, lengthen intestinal segments to increase surface area and reduce transit time.
